Tablet weaving. Basic pattern: chequer

Threading diagram

This threading option is a version 2×2 threading that can also be used to produce weftwise stripes of a pattern in doubleface technique. In this particular case, pairs of tablets are shifted half a turn in relation to neighbouring pairs. By turning the tablets in cycles of two turns (2 forward, 2 back) the threading will produce warpwise stripes that will be of different colour on the opposite sides of the band (while the usual warpwise stripes will be of the same colour on each side of the band). On diagrams left to right: 1 – position of the tablets alternates as per threading diagram, tablets are continuously turned in one direction; 2 – position of the tablets alternates as per threading diagram, tablets are turned 4 times forward, 4 times back; 3 – position of the tablets alternates as per threading diagram, tablets are turned 3 times forward, 3 times back, cycle A-B-C.
