Gallery. Tablet weaving: Birka strapwork motif

This interlaced pattern is based on a brocaded pattern from historic bands found in Birka, Sweden. This pattern version adapts the design for a different technique. The belt was woven as an experiment and its ends remain unfinished.

Size: width 3,5 cm, woven length 150,9 cm.

Materials: warp and weft — 100% wool.

Technique: 1х3 diagonals  (technique basics explained here), 28 tablets.

Creation date: spring 2003.
