Band with names: next elements

Band with names: next elements

Now almost 30 cm woven: It’s the names next. Had to unweave a few times to fix mistakes or catch some warp threads that decided to walk on their own. A tiny error remains as I had noticed it too late, but thankfully that one

16 cm woven at the moment. Based on the first pattern element, the average density of the weaving is about 4,8 rows per cm, which mans that the final band should come to about 117 cm. As can be seen on the photo, the warp

First step is the hardest

First step is the hardest

Over four hours of work spread out across the whole day. 160 doubled warp threads in 40 tablets, plus 15 metres of weft on the shuttle. The most recurring thought of the day? “Why on earth did I get myself into this again?!” 😀 The

Third band for mittens or Batman returns

Third band for mittens or Batman returns

It’s quite funny actually – when I designed this pattern and started weaving, I was looking at it from the other side. I only spotted the Batman I’d already woven about half the length. 🙂 The photo, unfortunately, turned out even worse than the pink

Second band and some math

Second band and some math

Finished the second braid in a bit of a rush today. Took photos while it was still on the loom – pink is just impossibly unphotogenic. This time I remembered to measure and note down everything I could think of. P.S. Have I mentioned that

Simple … and slow

Simple … and slow

As already several mittens have decided to abandon our older daughter, a solution was needed to keep the remaining mittens with us. Didn’t even think about getting manufactured bands. 😀 Threaded 8 tablets real quick and … they just sat on the loom for a

New pattern: rose

New pattern: rose

Got another flower pattern drawn: Preparing for the next weave, which is going to be double-face in rather thin cotton. Just need to smooth out the tablet holes as replacing warp threads is not what I’d be happy with during this weave.

Finished flames

Finished flames

The day before yesterday I finished the band, and yesterday I spent the whole day making tassels in between wiping small sniffly noses. 🙂 I’m really pleased with the results of all the experiments. Now I just need to think of a use for the

New pattern: bellflowers

New pattern: bellflowers

Spent some time with paper and pencil, and GTT. Made a new pattern for double face double turn technique: bellflowers. Pattern is published here. Most probably there will be more double face patterns coming soon.

Tablet weaving: flames

Tablet weaving: flames

The loom is working absolutely brilliantly. I can’t think of anything to complain about. It’s still unclear whether the weights needs adjusting. While the tablets were all in one pack, the warp threads were making a lot of sounds as the tablets were turning. Once

Preparing the loom for tablet weaving

Preparing the loom for tablet weaving

Today I finally got around to preparing the warp for the first band on this loom. I pre-cut the warp threads. Then I took them in groups of four according to what was needed for each tablet and tied them to the front end of

First set of weights

First set of weights

Used materials: linen fabric, linen and cotton thread, wollen yarn, metal rings, lead pellets. Needle, scissors, sewing machine. Kitchen scale. Hands. 😀 Made 18 weights – according to number of tablets needed to weave the pattern I chose for the test band. Initially I wanted
