Narrow diagonals: almost done

Narrow diagonals: almost done

The weaving is finished. The end on the belt on the loom: The narrowing end is done and pulled tight for density: The excess warp is pulled together to form a flat tassel: Just the finishing touch remains – need to find the most suitable

80 centimetres. Already took down some warp bobbins, but corresponding weights hang very low still, so there’s definitely enough warp.

Weaving Upside Down: When the Pattern Ends Up on the Wrong Side

I’ve never had any doubts about which side of the band the pattern should appear on during tablet weaving: naturally, it should be on the top – or, in the case of a vertical loom, on the side facing the weaver. But apparently, this isn’t

Text-based pattern vs turning sequence tabel

Text-based pattern vs turning sequence tabel

Working with a text-based pattern is actually very straightforward – especially when it’s the kind you can print out from GTT. Essentially, it’s a table: each row corresponds to a weaving row, with an indication of which tablets turn forward and which turn back. By

Nearly 30 centimetres woven, and I’ve just given up trying to get a half-decent photo of the reverse side without taking the belt off the loom. So I reverted to using GTT. The top image shows the main pattern as it is on the loom;

Narrow diagonals: first pattern repeats

Just over 10 cm woven: Had to alter the pattern a bit during weaving as there were long floats just between pattern repeats. So just unpicked a couple of rows and changed to sequence. Now I like the look even better. Tried to take a

Tablet weaving prep: bobbins

Tablet weaving prep: bobbins

Yesterday I warped the tablets for a new belt. This time it’s going to be narrow diagonals – only the reverse side won’t be a simple negative of the front; it’ll have a completely separate pattern of its own. For the first time, I set

What the new year brings…

What the new year brings…

Happy New Year! It’s time to catch up on everything that was put on hold during the festive marathon. First of all, I received a new warp spreader for the loom just before New Year’s Eve. It’s taller and has finer spacing than the first

The final 20 centimetres were woven without the spreader (it’s currently back with the craftsman for a bit of refinement), and once again I was reminded just how quickly we get used to good tools. Without the spreader, progress slowed noticeably. On top of that,

Got the new tools today that I ordered at Martinmas Fair: These are wooden bobbins for long warp that will allow to unwind the desired length instead of moving the weights every time I move the warp. 🙂 Very happy with them and will put

Two kids, not quite well, but rather energetic, are not exactly helping the weaving process. 😀 Not much more to weave though. 71 cm done, probably around 35-37 cm to weave. Have to go get some more weft thread as I ran out of this

Band with names: A Day of Absentmindedness

I’m not sure if the middle rose is just a particularly unlucky motif, or if my mind was simply elsewhere all day yesterday – but I ended up unpicking the same section three times. First, on the last row of petals, the outlines went off
