What the new year brings…
Happy New Year! It’s time to catch up on everything that was put on hold during the festive marathon. First of all, I received a new warp spreader for the loom just before New Year’s Eve.
It’s taller and has finer spacing than the first one, and comes with an extra fixation at the top. Once again, the craftsman has made a brilliant improvement to the design.
Our eldest daughter (she’s three and a half) received a children’s loom made by SES:
It’s more of a fun and symbolic gift than a truly practical one – although you still can weave on it. The main drawback is that the shed is very narrow, so the shuttle doesn’t pass through easily; you have to manually pick the threads onto it. That said, the most important thing is that she now proudly announces she has her own loom – just like mum. 😀 Even better, she’s taken a real interest in embroidery too, and can now spend quite a while carefully stitching back and forth. The next step will be teaching her how to place stitches in a deliberate sequence.
The recipients of the band with names received it just after Christmas. Their response, word for word, was: “we’re speechless.” 😀
In the next few days I’ll be making another eight weights and warping up the next project: a cotton belt with 1/1 diagonals.
