Yesterday I warped the tablets for a new belt. This time it\u2019s going to be narrow diagonals – only the reverse side won\u2019t be a simple negative of the front; it\u2019ll have a completely separate pattern of its own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the first time, I set up the loom using bobbins. To allow the warp to unwind during weaving, I had to start setting up from the far end of the loom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First, the four threads for one tablet are tied to a weight, then most of the length is wound onto a bobbin, and the ends are threaded through a tablet:<\/p>\n\n\n

Next, the threads are passed through the spreader, and their ends tied to the bar at the working end of the loom:<\/p>\n\n\n

The bobbin hangs directly above the weight, and allows for adjustment of both thread length and weight height – making it easier to position the weights so they don\u2019t get in each other\u2019s way.<\/p>\n\n\n

So far, I\u2019m really pleased with the bobbins. We\u2019ll see how they perform once I start weaving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And this Saturday, after a long break, I\u2019ll be teaching a workshop again. I\u2019m just hoping I don\u2019t overwhelm everyone with too much information. \ud83d\ude00<\/p>\n\n\n\n
